  • Literacy

    Reading:  Instructional reading programme (groups) on-going daily all term. Personal Reading: learning to choose appropriately, SSR, independent. Shared/ guided  reading with varied genre.  Focus: recount, weekly poem, shared books, library skills.. Reading with/to/by. Where appropriate, links to inquiry.
    Writing: Purpose is needs based – relating to personal experiences/ inquiry learning.  Exploring Language: awareness of nouns, adjectives, simple sentences, full stops and capitals
    Oral: giving and receiving messages, taking turns in discussions, social courtesies, greetings, farewells.

    Retelling: news, familiar stories, (current events/article news), presenting information (see saw), role-plays.  Reading aloud to an audience.

    Mathematics

    Number & Algebra – Number knowledge, basic facts; Measurement – Time.

    Inquiry

     Looking after what we have got. Land, animals, plants. How can we look after the land we live in? How can we preserve it / improve it  for future generations to come?

    Social Sciences

    Understand how places in New Zealand are significant for individuals and groups: looking after what we have got.

    Science

Visual Art

Hub 1 – 4 Pastel/Native Birds: Research & examine artwork of NZ artist Don Binney & his passion for native birds.  They will apply knowledge of colour, line, shape, blending and the principles of composition when creating their artwork.  Vision for these to be used as Friends Fun Raiser.

Dance / Drama

Hub 1 – 4 DANCE Hub 1 & 2 Looking Ahead For Our Native Animals: Explore & communicate knowledge, ideas & feelings about features and actions of selected extinct or endangered NZ native animals. They will perform locomotor/non- locomotor movements using a variety of different body bases representing features & actions of these animals. DRAMA Hub 3 & 4 Iconic Drama-€œI just didn€™t think!€: Explore the way in which every individual is accountable for ecological sustainability. They will examine how conservation has always been an issue in history by utilising various Te Papa digital resources eg Huia beak brooch c. 1900 using drama to create fictitious situations where a person in the past is forced to face up to their involvement in the extinction of a species.
