Information For Parents

At Hadlow, we like to keep our parents up-to-date on what’s going on.

Homework

Parents frequently hear from our teachers by email, particularly when it comes to homework.

At Hadlow, we encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning. It’s this philosophy that guides our approach to homework.

The standard homework for a child in Year 1 or 2 is some reading aloud and basic facts activities – the idea is to build a solid learning foundation through rote learning.

As a child becomes more self-managing and self-motivated, we encourage them to work out the homework they need to do. We ask students to make decisions based on what they have yet to complete from the day’s lessons and what they need to do to prepare for the day ahead.

As a Google docs school, all school work is completed and stored online, providing access from home or school.

Reports and Conferences

We report on student progress against the National Standards in written reports and we update parents on their child’s learning goals at child-led conferences.

School Newsletters

You can also keep up-to-date on what’s happening generally by reading our regular newsletters, The Bulletin and Hadlow Active.

Charter and Strategic Plan

Parents are welcome to read our charter, strategic plan or the principal’s regular newsletter column. Michael’s columns cover weighty topics like future-focused education and e-learning – they’re a great way to find out more about why we do the things we do.
