Hadlow’s school day starts at 8.45am sharp – although we encourage everyone to be here by 8.30am.
Timetable
Students break for morning tea around 10.30am and for an hour’s lunch at 12.15pm. The school day ends at 3pm.
On Monday, we finish with whole-school chapel held at our local chapel, Church of The Epiphany, run by Year 7 and 8 students. On Fridays, we finish with a whole-school assembly, which is also student led.
Houses
All Hadlow students belong to one of four houses – Masters, Carter, Martin or Grey – with houses made up of students in Years 1 to 8.
House membership gives students a way to bond, develop friendships outside their age group, mentor one another and contribute and become part of a team.
They’re also a great way to bring the whole school together for annual sports and cultural competitions.
Uniform
Wearing the Hadlow School uniform with pride is something we wholeheartedly encourage at our school.
The uniform is special to us in that it represents the school’s long history and the values we share. We like to think when a child puts on our uniform they have a sense of its special meaning and their role in upholding its value in the way they wear it.
At Hadlow, we have different uniforms for boys and girls; for summer and winter; and for formal and informal occasions. We also have a PE uniform.
All items are available from the on-site uniform shop.
Stationery and Technology
At the start of every year, we provide our students with all the stationery they need for the school year.
In class, students will find plenty of laptop and tablet computers available. Students are also welcome to bring their own device. We recommend something with a screen that’s at least 10 inches (or 25.4 centimetres) wide and has a keyboard. Alternatively, students are welcome to use what’s available at school.
We’re also a Google docs school, which means all school work is completed and stored online, providing access from home or school.
Shared Lunches
We offer a catered lunch to the children who want it. It’s always yummy and nutritious – and it gives everyone (that’s teachers too) a chance to sit down in the school dining room and share a meal.
As a rule, there’s always something hot, as well as salads, raw veges, fruit, something sweet, and bread and spread.
Catching the Bus
We offer a bus service that takes our students to and from school each day.
Depending on where a child lives, they can catch the Featherston South Wairarapa charter bus, the Ministry of Education free bus that travels further afield or the Tranzit bus that picks up and drops off at places throughout the Wairarapa.
Lunchtime and After School
We have a duty teacher available from 8am until 4.15pm every day, which means students are welcome at school between those hours.
Chapel
Chapel takes place every Monday at our local church, the Church of the Epiphany.
It is overseen by the school chaplain, the Reverend Peter Brown, and led by a committed team of Year 7 and 8 students. Our student chapel team coordinates the 20-minute service, reads the lesson and chooses the hymn. Parents are always welcome.
A Community That Cares
As an Anglican school, Hadlow prides itself on having a fulltime director of religious education and access to a community chaplain. Both our director and chaplain seek to nurture faith and personal identity and encourage children to consciously apply Christian teaching.
Values for Life
Students are involved in termly fundraising activities for people in need – and are encouraged to be aware of the values and ideals for daily life and to appreciate the beliefs and aspirations by which people live.
Our director and chaplain provide a Christian presence in the school and are available to offer spiritual nourishment to our wider school community.
The Epiphany Church
Hadlow’s chapel services are based in Masterton’s historic Epiphany Church in the Anglican tradition. Anyone from any faith, belief or background is welcome.
